As with everything else in 2020, Halloween is bound to look a bit different this year. For those of you looking for a COVID friendly Halloween activity for your family, here’s what mine is doing…

If you are not familiar with this game, it’s called L-C-R (Left, Center, Right). I love everything about this game. It can be played by people all ages, with however many want to play (three minimum), it’s small and easy to take anywhere you go, it’s affordable (aka cheap) and so much fun!
Normally when our family plays LCR we play with money, but because we will be playing on Halloween, we will of course be substituting with CANDY! Also, my grandkids who are 11, 9 and 3 will be playing and they prefer the candy over the money. (Me too!)
The way you play is that everyone starts with three of something in front of them. The game comes with small chips you can use or, like I stated earlier, you can use money or candy. Other ideas are cereal, dried beans, fruit snacks, whatever you have a lot of laying around. Get creative!
When using money, you need to use the same denomination. (So, all pennies, all dimes, etc.) If you use something like M&M’s or cereal (anything that isn’t individually wrapped) you’ll likely want to use the chips that come with the game for the actual game play and then once the “pot” has been won, trade out the chips for the same amount of the other item. Much less germy!
Once everyone has their stash of whatever you’ve all decided to play with, and three of the item are out front of each of you (you will need to be at a table or on the floor) the first person will roll the three dice. For every R you roll you pass that number of candy (or whatever) to the person on your right. For every L you roll you pass that number to the person on your Left. If you roll a C, the item goes in the Center (the pot) and any dot rolled means you get to keep that many items in front of you. The dots are your friend!
Because my youngest grandson will definitely want to get in on the action when we play on Halloween (the 3-year-old) my daughter has been playing with him already and teaching him how it works. A great modification for the younger players is to write an L and R on their hands. Again, I love this game because even the littles can play. With the L and R on his hands, Parker has been able to see which direction he needs to place the chips they are practicing with. Not only is he loving playing the game, but he is also learning right from left!
If you don’t already own L-C-R but want to give it a try (it also makes a great stocking stuffer for those who like to Christmas shop early like I do) it can be purchased at most stores like Walmart and Target for under 10 dollars. Here is a link to one at Amazon for $6.95. (It says recommended for ages 5 and up but you just learned how to make it work for younger kids too.) 😉
Whatever your family decides to do this Halloween (if you celebrate) I hope it’s safe and fun filled!
